CAUSE, CURE AND CANCER FREE is the self-help autobiography of John Marra, a Cleveland Ohio business man who found out he had cancer and decided to do something about it. Instead of giving in to the doctors around him that were insisting he would die if he didn’t have an operation to help fix what was wrong inside of him, John decided to learn about what causes cancer and how to beat it. He did just that. After researching for what seemed like forever, John totally came to the conclusion that th

This terrifying contraption is called a ‘jugum penis.’ It was designed to prevent both masturbation and ‘nocturnal incontinence.’

Should a man become aroused in the middle of the night, this contraption would clamp down, extinguishing both his desire as well as his erection in a very sudden and painful way!

The Jugum Penis was intended to cure "spermatorrhoea", a Victorian-era name for nocturnal emissions. The device was fashioned out of a metal ring, which would fit at the base of the penis and was attached with a clip.

The Victorian era, in all its prudish glory, became the ultimate era of repression, denial and sin. In fact, during this time, girls were restricted from riding horses or bicycles, sewing, and squatting down to do laundry because the feelings associated with these activities could turn a nice girl naughty.

Even cereal magnates Kellog and Graham jumped on the anti-mastrubation bandwagon, giving "the finger" to using ones hands.

Dr. John Kellogg, the creator of the ever popular Rice Krispies cereal. Both foods were developed to curb masturbatory impulses in young boys, as this health food movement postulated that bland foods were meant to increase health and decrease interest in sex.

Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of The Scout Association, incorporated a passage in the 1914 edition of Scouting for Boys warning against the dangers of masturbation. This passage stated that the individual should run away from the temptation by performing physical activity which was supposed to tire the individual so that masturbation could not be performed.

By 1930, however, Dr. F. W. W. Griffin, editor of The Scouter, had written in a book for Rover Scouts that the temptation to masturbate was "a quite natural stage of development" and, citing Ellis’ work, held that "the effort to achieve complete abstinence was a very serious error."

‘Close your eyes and think of England’, are sayings attributed to various Victorians either as their own comment on marital sexual relations or as advice from mothers to daughters on impending marriage.

In the Victorian era life was simpler; queens wore tiny crowns, heroin was legal and masturbation was apparently the greatest threat to life as they knew it.

Blamed for everything from insanity to acne, the people of this era spent a great deal of time and effort creating and patenting devices to protect us from this great evil, whether we wished to be saved or not.

The myths that masturbation leads to blindness, or causes you to grow hair on the palms of your hands, or will cause someone to be impotent later in life, or leads to mental illness, have all been debunked many times; but they seem to have a life of their own and crop up again and again.

In fact masturbating has been an almost universal practice since history has been recorded. Probably 90 percent of men have masturbated at some time (and many would say the other 10 percent are lying); and it is also very common among women, especially since women’s liberation began to enable women to know and appreciate their bodies.

In the early part of this century, John Harvey Kellogg gained a reputation both as a nutritionist and a sexual adviser. The foods that Kellogg created (including the now-famous corn flakes) were designed to promote health and decrease interest in sex.

Mr. Kellogg thought sex was the ultimate abomination and remained celibate even in marriage. Masturbation was the worst sin imaginable to him. He believed it led to leprosy, tuberculosis, heart disease, epilepsy, dimness of vision, insanity, idiocy, and death. He also preached that masturbation led to bashfulness in some people, unnatural boldness in others, a fondness for spicy foods, round shoulders, and acne. That’s quite a list!

As we all know now, there are most definitely foods that promote health, but none in particular that decrease interest in sex or masturbation. So, you can eat all the corn flakes you want, and have good, safe sex!

You lose stamina by masturbating?.

Many boys are told that masturbating will cause them to be less energetic at sporting activities. Quite simply, that’s not true. To be good at sports, continue to practice your game and eat healthy and don’t worry about your nocturnal activities.

Masturbation leads to pimples?.

This myth was probably started by some harrowed parent who wanted their teenage child to get out of the bathroom so someone else could use it. And what better way to get teenagers to do something that to appeal to their sense of vanity?

The truth is that acne and pimples are caused by oily skin and have nothing to do with masturbation.

We will run out of sperm?.

Relax, your sperm is not finite and your body produces millions of it everyday. By masturbating often, you will not run out.

Girls don’t masturbate?.

Yes they do. And there’s no shame in it.

The opposite – girls masturbate way more than boys.

Masturbation leads to homosexuality?.

Your sexual orientation does not depend on whether or not you masturbate.

"Pink Heals Tour Picks Up Donated Firetruck in Texas

"Dave Graybill, a firefighter from Arizona, started the Pink Heals Tour in 2007 to inspire men to support the women in their community who are battling cancer. He travels the country in a pink fire engine raising money and spreading cancer awareness. Last week, Graybill went to Tyler, Texas to pick up his sixth truck, a 1969 fire truck that will join his Pink fleet, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

During the ceremony, Tyler firefighters announced that ,220 in locally raised donations would be allocated to six charities, ,055 would be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Tyler; ,055 to the American Cancer Society; ,250 to the East Texas Medical Center Foundation for its "Pink Ribbon Getaway" and the "Great Getaway" programs; ,250 to the Trinity Mother Frances Health System Foundation for its "Hopeful Journey" and genetic testing programs; 0 to the Cancer Foundation for Life’s "Fit Steps for Life" program; and 0 to the "Pink Heals Tour", Guardians of the Ribbon. The remaining ,610 will be used to start Tyler Firefighters CARE (Cancer Awareness and Relief Effort) fund to help employees and their family members diagnosed with cancer, according to the newspaper.

This was the second truck donated to the tour from Tyler. Last October, the city gave Graybill a truck named "Tonya" after the wife of Tyler firefighter Wes Malcomb, who died of cancer, according to KYTX. This truck, donated by Sam and Connie Greenberg is being named Chance, after a 5-year old St. Louis boy, according to the paper. Before this, all the other trucks were named after women who have battled cancer.

"Chance, I met on the tour last year and he has a brain tumor behind his eyes so he’s blind after his treatments," Graybill told KYTX. "I’ve got to have a truck for children’s cancer," he added. Graybill and Chance the truck headed back to Arizona. This is a post from Graybill on the Pink Heals Facebook Page "We are home with ‘Chance’. Although we broke down twice and needed to be towed each time, it was a great experience. We pushed ‘Chance’ to the limit, he was a little shy at first, threw a few temper tantrums but what a great truck!!!! Can’t wait to get ‘Chance’ all painted up and drive him across the country, but most importantly to take the real Chance for a ride on his very own fire truck."

title: "Ottawa Cancer Survivor to Run 28th and Final Marathon"

In May 2000 as Cheryl Kardish-Levitan was competing in the Ottawa Race Weekend’s half-marathon, she felt an exhaustion like no other. Not far from her Old Ottawa South home, she decided to drop out of the race and walk the few blocks to her house.

Having 20 marathons and nearly twice as many half-marathons under her belt, the decision to quit was foreign to her. But another marathon was brewing inside her: a cancerous tumour in her right breast.

Fourteen years later, Kardish-Levitan, now 60, is preparing to run her 28th and final marathon, along with 7,000 other runners. When she began running recreationally in 1976, she had no idea that the activity would become all-encompassing, spanning almost four decades. When she began running marathons, she was often the lone woman. At the Ottawa Marathon on May 25, the 40th year of the event, 2,606 women will compete and 4,407 men.

“There weren’t really many women running back then. It was a novelty,” she said. “People said ‘Why are you doing this to your body?’ ”

When she crossed the finish line of her first marathon in 1976 (she was the third woman), there were no spectators cheering on the exhausted runners. This year’s marathon is expected to draw 100,000 spectators.

As Ottawa’s Marathon has grown over four decades, Kardish-Levitan’s life followed the trajectory of many Canadians. She married in her twenties after meeting Brian, her future husband, while running on the Rideau Canal. She established a career as a realtor and raised a daughter and two sons: Elana, Tyler and Ian. When she was three months pregnant with Elana, she completed the 1984 marathon — her 20th marathon. It would be her last one for 21 years. Parenthood and a torn anterior cruciate ligament — major connective knee tissue — were reason enough to keep her from running marathons until 2005.

But she remained an active member of Ottawa’s running community for 20 years and continued to run half-marathons at Ottawa Race Weekend, which she has participated in each year since its second year. She also became a fixture of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Run for the Cure.

In 2000, she raised ,000 for the foundation through her participation in the run. She returned the next year, while being treated for a benign tumour in her left breast, and raised ,000 for the foundation.

Overall, Kardish-Levitan has raised more than 7,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. While she fundraises on her own, she’s quick to credit her employer CLV Realty Corp., for their support over the past eight years. “They kickstart my campaign every year. Since I’ve been with the company, they’ve given me ,000 every year for the campaign.”

Kardish-Levitan’s involvement with the Run for the Cure is sometimes bittersweet. As a member of a tight-knit group of breast cancer survivors called Just Doing It, she has helped raise 5,822. But over the years, the group has lost 14 members to cancer.

“Being on that breast cancer team, we’ve lost so many teammates that are younger than me. One year it was particularly bad as we lost five women. They all had recurrence that metastasized in different areas.”

In 2005, Kardish-Levitan returned to the marathon, defying doctors’ verdicts that her knee injury would prevent her from ever running that distance again. She went on to run another six marathons between 2005 and 2009. The desire to challenge herself is still very evident as she continues to run three to five times each week, but she swears this really will be her final marathon.

“I do it because it’s helped me deal with everything in my life. The happy situations, the tragic situations. Psychologically, I feel that if I can challenge myself and push myself to run another marathon, it’s going to keep my cancer from coming back.”

Kardish-Levitan, who has more than 80 half-marathons under her belt, says she’ll complete the marathon even if she has to crawl across the finish line. Having seen so many seemingly healthy women just like her lose their lives to breast cancer, she relishes this opportunity.

“It really is a roll of the dice. I’m grateful that I am able to still run and to give back. That’s really important for me.”
